Shoulder Pain and Car Accidents

Shoulder Pain is a common symptom after a car accident, and it's something that Michael J. Covington DC-PS sees often in our Yakima office. What causes shoulder pain after an auto collision? How can chiropractic care help?

There are at least two different ways that you can develop shoulder pain after a car crash: by direct trauma to the shoulder or by radiating pain from the neck.

Direct trauma can be caused by hitting your shoulder on a hard surface in the car during the crash, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end collision. With this type of injury, you'll usually be aware of the pain shortly after the crash.

More commonly, Michael J. Covington DC-PS finds that shoulder or arm pain does not immediately appear after a crash, but starts a few days or weeks after the accident. This type of shoulder pain actually starts in the neck. Injured soft tissue in your neck can squeeze nerves in your neck, causing tingling, numbness, or soreness in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've treated both types of shoulder pain in our Yakima office. This approach involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural mobility and home exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.

Let us help you recover from shoulder pain. Michael J. Covington DC-PS has helped many patients with the same condition, and we can probably help you, too.
